The series focuses on the brothers, Wirt and Greg (voiced by Elijah Wood and Collin Dean respectively), who find themselves in the Unknown, a strange forest. In the USA the series was classified as TV-PG due to its dark theme. In Brazil, the series premiered on 6 of July of 2015 and finished 17 of July of 2015 on Cartoon Network. Over the Garden Wall debuted in the US on 3 of November of 2014 and ended on November 7 of the same year on Cartoon Network in Portugal the series premiered day 23 of March of 2015 and finished 27 of March of 2015 in Cartoon Network. The series features Elijah Wood and Collin Dean as the protagonists Wirt and Greg, and Melanie Lynskey as the blue bird Beatrice. The pilot became the catalyst for Over the Garden Wall. After working on the series The Trapalhadas de Flapjack and Hora de Aventura, the channel was interested, and McHale launched a pilot episode. McHale had envisioned the series in 2004, and was shown to the channel in 2006. The program was the channel’s first miniseries, which started production in March 2014. The series came from the animated short film, Tome of the Unknown by McHale, which featured the same characters, produced at Cartoon Network Studios.
